Het grote niets (2025) draws inspiration from the sober, agnostic notion of “the great nothing” that follows death. At the heart of the installation, a video depicts my body slowly submerging into dark, black waters; an image that evokes the tragic serenity of Ophelia, suspended between life and oblivion.
The installation is composed of magnolia and birch branches, various types of moss, asparagus, and chestnut wood. Together, these organic materials form a fragile landscape that reflects both decay and renewal. The work emerged from an intimate confrontation with loss, following the death of my mother in 2022, when she exchanged the temporary for the eternal.

Het grote niets (2025) is geïnspireerd op het sobere, agnostische concept van het grote niets dat de dood opvolgt. Centraal in de installatie staat een videowerk waarin mijn lichaam langzaam wegzinkt in donker, zwart water; een beeld dat de tragische sereniteit van Ophelia oproept, balancerend tussen leven en vergetelheid.
De installatie is opgebouwd uit magnolia- en berkentakken, diverse soorten mos, asperagetakken en kastanjehout. Deze organische materialen vormen gezamenlijk een fragiel landschap dat de spanningsboog tussen verval en vernieuwing verbeeldt.
Het werk is ontstaan uit een persoonlijke confrontatie met verlies, naar aanleiding van het overlijden van mijn moeder in 2022, toen zij het tijdelijke verwisselde voor het eeuwige.
